Alexa struggles to live up to her destiny and free her enslaved home-world from an evil sorceress.
Destiny is Calling…
All Alexa ever wanted was to be a normal girl, but the nightmares, memory loss and “gift” of premonition make that impossible. On her sixteenth birthday, she discovers a prophecy that she is the key to saving her enslaved home-world from an evil sorceress who intends on seeing her and the prophecy die. Finding out she’s not exactly human, but a witch and the fabled “prophecy girl,” destined to fight the “big bad,” to free a home-world she doesn’t even remember—seriously?
The Seeker Must Awaken…
Alexa is determined to uncover the truth about her life because nothing about her peaceful existence, in the sleepy town of Lethe Valley Ohio, is as it appears. Is her life with her grandmother real or is the existence she lives every night—in her dreams of Venestria—the true reality? The lines are becoming blurred and she’s not sure what to believe. Every night Quinn appears in her dreams and tells her that her real life is waiting, “The Seeker must awaken.” He vows to protect her from the danger she faces in his world. Two realities will collide and Alexa must face a choice–embrace her destiny or run from it.

…What did Quinn mean by ‘The Seeker must awaken’? She turned her gaze to Dr. Nox. Did he ask me a question? “My dreams…?”
The doctor nodded. “Did you have another dream?”
Alexa sighed. “I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I’ve had nightmares ever since the… accident, but these new dreams started a year ago. They feel so real. It’s like I’m living another life.” Alexa shook her head and looked away. “I’m in love with a man who doesn’t exist. Oh, by the way, he’s an elf. Apparently, I’m insane.”
The first book of The Lux Seekers series introduces you to 15-year-old Alexa, haunted by a recurring dream. On her sixteenth birthday, her psychiatrist talks in riddles and hands her a weird note, she is nearly strangled by a character from her dreams, waking up in her bed with the still visible hand prints on her throat. She visits a willow tree and her life takes an incredible turn. I will not tell you more about the story than shown in the Goodreads plot description. This would spoil the fun of reading this book yourself.
With The Seeker Must Awaken, Willow A. Renner has created the first instalment of The Lux Seekers series. It is a very enjoyable read. I was drawn into the story like an invisible guest, felt rather close to Alexa, her emotions, struggles, the events. The Seeker Must Awaken is the promising start of a new YA fantasy series with nice turns, a fast read, appealing not only to readers who appreciate the young adult fantasy genre.
This book is the first instalment of a pretty promising YA series; a book and/or series to read again.
