B00kr3vi3wtours sent me a copy of this book (epub format) in exchange for an honest review for the White Swans Regency Tour.
My rating: 4.4 of 5 stars
Left an orphan, Kendíka cries herself to sleep and startles awake in a Regency castle. Terror consumes her, and she attempts to escape only to discover the new world is her prison. Having no choice, she attends a ball given by her guardian, Lord Deverow, to introduce her into society. He admonishes her to follow the rules and promises to protect her from the wrath of the strange, hazy set of eyes spying on everything. But when she ignores his warning, Kendíka learns firsthand what it means to be disobedient.
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy
Series: White Swans, #1
Pages: 258 (estimated)
Startled by the lack of movement, Kendíka sat up in bed, scanning the shadows in the moonlit room. Perspiration beaded her forehead while her heart pounded against her ribs. The last thing she remembered was sitting in the limousine next to Mr. Vetrano, arguing about her future. He insisted the will mandated her future, not him. Did the pill knock her out? How dare he drug me!
She blinked and, holding her breath, glanced around the unfamiliar room. When her lungs screamed for air, she exhaled then took another deep inhale. What the hell? What happened to the limousine?
The book introduces you to Kendíka. After her parents’ death, she wakes up in a strange environment. I will not tell you more about the story than shown in the Goodreads plot description. This would spoil the fun of reading this book yourself.
With White Swans: The Regency World, Annamaria Bazzi has created an intriguing story of a 16-year-old girl who has to deal with life in a quite different environment: a past era, with unusual additions. The author tells the story caringly – giving the reader room to get acquainted with Kendíka, the other protagonists and the surroundings. As the story proceeds you learn more about the humans, the swans and the circumstances. It is a surprising story, I warmed to some characters pretty fast. What can I tell you – I’m hooked and need to read the following instalments as well. This is a book for you if you like young adult and fantasy stories, people with all their virtues and flaws.
A book to read again. Recommended!
