Poll: Enhancing the reviews’ ‘In brief’ section

Dear readers,

Writing my latest review, I mused if I should add ‘Cover’ as a new item. Perhaps there are other options you would like to see in the reviews’ ‘In brief’ section. Please also name the criteria you would like to see.

I am looking forward to your suggestions. Your comments are highly appreciated. Thank you very much.ย  ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. I think adding a cover rating is the perfect idea. Can’t wait to see what you come up with for the stars. Maybe paws since you have Oh, My Dog! series?

    • Or you could do something genre-related, depending on the book. Spaceship for sci-fi, magnifying glass for cozy mystery, deerstalker for traditional detective mysteries, murder weapon for thrillers and other mysteries, hearts for romance…etc…

      • This is a great idea, Sue!
To make things easier, one symbol for the ratings, and – 1 symbol for the genre; consider it done!

    • Thank you very much for your kind feedback, Sue.
You read ‘Oh. My. Dog!’? Thank you – I am honoured. ๐Ÿ™‚
If my cats saw the dog paws, they might not be amused…

    • Thank you very much for voting in favour of the ‘Cover’ addition, Suzanne. What are your suggestions regarding the rating, if I may ask? ‘Great’, ‘Good’, ‘Bad’ seems so boring…

      • You could go with the 1 to 5 rating system. Some of the reviewers I follow use more interesting icons than just a number i.e. crowns, hearts, flames, thumbs up. Having something relevant to you and your blog makes it more fun.

      • Thank you for this excellent suggestion, Suzanne.
I am going to test some variants; perhaps there will be another poll. Let’s see what I come up with. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Perhaps I should have specified, Teresa. My bad.
Up to now, the ‘In brief’ section of my reviews comprises ratings for writing, plot, mood, pace, characters, violence, sexual content, POV.
I was thinking about adding Cover with a rating as well. As you are a great artist, I would like you to suggest how to rate a cover (ideally also from a reader’s point of view).
When I last checked there were seven who opted for adding the cover rating.

      • Ah, gotcha! ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for explaining, Karen. I think that’s a good idea to add a cover rating. I suggest to rate in terms of how much it appeals to you, whether you think the font works with the overall art, and maybe how well it complements the story. Some covers seem to have little to do with the story…LOL!

      • Thanks for your great feedback, Teresa. ๐Ÿ™‚
The cover’s beauty – or the lack thereof – will be rated from 1 – 5 stars, additional comments will be in the text.
Regarding fonts… As I do not like serif fonts, I am not the best judge… Excellent legibility is a must, therefore I often prefer e-books.
