3 Quotes – Buddha / 2

Buddha

Leader

born:  563 BC
died:  463 BC

Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.

In a controversy the instant we feel anger we have already ceased striving for the truth, and have begun striving for ourselves.

Just as treasures are uncovered from the earth, so virtue appears from good deeds, and wisdom appears from a pure and peaceful mind. To walk safely through the maze of human life, one needs the light of wisdom and the guidance of virtue.

  1. All three of Buddha’s quotations were meaningful, Karen. The one which “sticks” with me most is our inner candle can be spread without diminishing our flame. Simple but gorgeous imagery. Thank you for spreading light for us. 🙂

  2. I have to choose this one “Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.” It can be proven time and time again.

  3. Lovely quotes! We’re watching a DVD lecture series called “The Foundations of Eastern Civilization” and Buddhism is covered in it so this is nice and timely. 🙂

    • Thank you very much, Teresa.
Buddhism is far more than the Dalai Lama; I always enjoy learning more about it. I hope you liked the topic. 🙂
