Radar Road: the Best of On Impulse highlights an exploration of twenty-first century narrative. In four collections that move from raw to refined, the On Impulse series invites the reader to contemplate how we use language now: online, in full-length books, and with each other. Morgan Kiger arranged this fifth collection to stand on its own while showcasing the series’s original trajectory from catharsis to craft.

I don’t know. All I know is I saw my neighbor’s kid, a little girl about three years old with gold hair that’ll no doubt end up losing its curls and shine, outside. She was dancing in a flag. The storm had been terrible. During the worst of it the flag, a pretty large one maybe four-by-six feet, blew off its pole near the cemetery. It got caught in the rose trellis behind my house. When I first saw her running like a bull through a toreador’s cape the sky was still purple. July is like that. The sun on one side gleaming. Dark clouds on the opposite horizon grudgingly moving on.
This book offers the readers a broad variety of independent short stories.
With Radar Road, Nath Jones has created an interesting collection of short stories, all varying in length and mood. It is a quite entertaining read – each story let me watch the protagonists through a window. The protagonists are normal and of sufficient depth and their situations often seem familiar. Nath Jones lets you take part in her characters’ lives from a short distance – as if through a camera lens.
This is a book for you if you like a broad variety of short stories. It is the ideal read for your coffee breaks.
