My novels aren’t really generated by a single conceptual spark; it’s more a process of many different elements that come together unexpectedly over a long period of time.

In order for a long piece of work to engage a novelist over an extended period of time, it has to deal with questions that you find very important, that you’re trying to work out.

Taking on challenging projects is the way that one grows and extends one’s range as a writer, one’s technical command, so I consider the time well-spent.
Which is your favourite quote by Donna Tartt? 🙂
Love all 3 today Karen 🙂
Three winners! Thank you, Debby. 🙂
🙂
Merry Christmas!
Nice post! Merry Christmas Karen 🙋🏼
Thank you. Merry Christmas, Lucy. 🙋
These are all good. I always try to include a personal challenge in my work.
Thank you very much, Craig. Taking on these personal challenges shows in your excellent work.
Aww, thank you. I have it in mind to write a post about it over at Story Empire in January.
Great! Let me know when it is published, please.
I’ll try to remember. It isn’t my turn for a couple more weeks. I’ve been gathering photos and such for the post.
I’ll go for #3. Have a wonderful holiday, Karen, and thanks for making us THINK!
Great choice! Thanks, you have a wonderful holiday too, Marni. 🙂
I like quote three best, I think, though they’re all good 😀
Great choice, Helen. 🙂
Even little challenges let our writing skills grow.
Absolutely they do – every bit helps. Wishing you a Merry Christmas, Karen xx
Merry Christmas, Helen. 🙂
Thanks, Karen x
I like the third one – I saw Donna introduce Stephen King last summer on his book tour in Nashville.
Great choice, Teri. Regarding Donna – I am apparently living on the wrong continent. 😉
I like this one. “In order for a long piece of work to engage a novelist over an extended period of time, it has to deal with questions that you find very important, that you’re trying to work out.” It seems that at the end of the day it is those questions getting answers that eventually make up the book.
Excellent choice, John. A ‘How does it work?!’ question kept a friend of mine from sleeping for quite a while. He finally built a model and – found the answer at last.
It is a great feeling.
