VOLUME ONE: Starlight Saga
Is a star-crossed romance worth sacrificing your own life?
High school senior Sloane Masterson lives a quiet existence. She has awesome friends, gets excellent grades, and writes a column for the Haven Gazette. But her life goes from dullsville to bizarro when she witnesses mysterious loner Hayden Lancaster performing some freaky superhuman feats.
Like any good journalist, Sloane sets out to uncover the truth, and she’s not above stalking. But one look into Hayden’s remarkable eyes, and she’s crushing hard.
Even at the swoonworthy hunk’s insistence that hanging out with girls like Sloane is “off limits” by his strange family, she can’t resist him or wanting to solve the mystery.
Things get really complicated when a beautiful alien sets her sights on Hayden—and this devious girl’s not looking for a green card!
Now Sloane’s dealing with creepy government agents, über snobby extraterrestrials, and getting a crash course on the rules of interstellar dating. As their diverse worlds collide and the romantic sparks fly, Sloane must decide if Hayden’s secrets are worth risking her life to protect.
Sherry has compiled a few of her favorite moments from the first book in the Starlight Saga, “LOST IN STARLIGHT.” Enjoy the excerpts!
I’m suddenly aware that Hayden Lancaster’s blatantly staring at me. Hard to miss. He’s like a man among boys, at least in his flawless physique. His messenger bag is in one hand, and drumsticks stick out of his back pocket. I lift my hand in a hesitant little wave. He doesn’t return my gesture, just continues gazing at me through those thick lashes that frame his unique eyes. My head goes all woozy. Even my limbs feel jittery. Frustration and confusion are warring inside me for having any feelings for someone like him.
And what’s with the stare?
A wave of nervousness hits hard. Is there toilet paper hanging out of my jeans? Food stuck in my teeth? Or have Frankenstein bolts suddenly sprouted from my neck?
Being on Hayden’s radar is a little unsettling. I admit there’s something about Mr. Puppy Hero’s rare smiles, lopsided with an edge, that draw girls to him like insects buzzing a bug zapper. For better or worse, no one can resist Hayden Lancaster. Not even me….
“Do you believe in destiny, Hayden?” I ask.
“I do now…but before I met you, I didn’t think there was any such thing as love-at-first-sight, or one person for everyone, or a soulmate. But when I’m near you, I think…I might be wrong.” His expression softens, and he runs his thumb across my bottom lip, causing the blood to sear in my veins. “You know what I believe now? That the universe has no conscience will, only inevitabilities, and it was inevitable that we should be together. It was fated—written in the stars—that no matter what, I’ll never stop trying to make you happy or wanting to keep you safe. I am lost in you, with no desire to escape.”
My breath snags in my throat. Even my knees wobble. How is it that he can say the most romantic things?
My arms wrap around his body, pulling him closer. Hayden tilts his head and lowers his mouth to mine again—and all thoughts of judgy aliens and secret agents and disapproving parents instantly vanish. He kisses me hard, violently, with explosive feeling. He tastes tangy, almost like his spicy scent. His hands tangle in my hair, cradling my head gently. My body clenches in places I didn’t even know had muscles. My eyelids close as I stand there breathing heavily. Kissing Hayden is more electrifying and intense because I’ve never felt this way about anyone else before. Every cell in my body tingles and thrums with unnatural energy. Yearnings of want and need flow through me.
Hayden pulls back just enough so our gazes lock. “You’re mine now, Sloane,” he whispers.
What have I gotten myself into? With that one hot make out session everything’s changed. It’s been kicked up a notch.
I swallow. “Maybe we should think this through. Your brother, your parents will freak out—”
“Screw them,” he says strongly. “I know we have to be careful, but I’ll figure out a solution. Do you trust me, Sloane?”
“I do, but are you sure?”
We stare at each other, and the atmosphere crackles between us. He grabs my hips and jerks me against him. One of his hands tugs at my hair, gently pulling my head back as his mouth claims mine again. I put my hands on his arms to steady myself and kiss him back fiercely.
He breaks away without taking his smoldering gaze from mine. “It’s too late to change our minds,” he says. “We already sealed our fate with a kiss.”
