No wonder Poe didn’t deliver a photograph. The handless girl wasn’t his intended target. She was a means to an end, a ploy to get me to comply. It worked, too. Somewhere Mr. Mayhem left a clue. Bitterness coated my tongue as I slipped my fingers into black latex gloves. Gulped, and raised the severed hands to eye-level. Inked GPS coordinates marred the right palm. Across the left, block lettering read, “See you soon, Cautious Cat.”

My Opinion

This book re-introduces you to Shawnee Daniels, still her stubborn self – perhaps even more than before – not helpful with a serial killer close by.

With “I Am Mayhem”, Sue Coletta has outdone her previous work by creating an incredibly chilling thriller series finale with a stubborn young woman and a serial killer who wants revenge. It is a highly compelling read, inevitably drawing you in as the story proceeds. Sue Coletta paints a clear picture of the main characters’ mindsets – making the readers acquainted with them – while the story evolves. I was drawn rather close to Shawnee (despite her stubbornness), Levaughn, and even Mayhem; still could not warm up to Nadine, though. The main characters are very complex – three-dimensional, believable with their flaws and virtues; sometimes too believable and intense for comfort. The story is cleverly elaborated and has a great flow; I do not state this often – but this was an edge-of-your-seat experience for me. Sue Coletta’s thorough research shows; you find proof throughout the story.

This is a book for you if you like psychological suspense, thrillers with serial killers, stubborn characters, food for thought, and if you are a fan of excellently researched topics. If you liked the series so far – you will love this amazing finale.

Highly recommended – enjoy the thrill!

Plot
(by Goodreads)

Some things in life defy comprehension, but that doesn’t make them any less real. Or deadly.

When a familiar crow drops a cryptic scroll at Shawnee Daniels’ feet, she’s compelled to open it, even though everything in her power warns her not to. Mr. Mayhem—the most prolific serial killer the North Shore has ever known—claims her life is in danger. He “claims” he wants to help her, but just last year he threatened to murder everyone she loves.

While Mayhem taunts her with oddly-placed feathers, like The Creator left at his crime scenes, an interstate killing spree rocks Massachusetts and New Hampshire. A madman is decapitating men and women, dumping their headless corpses on two area beaches. But what Shawnee soon uncovers shatters all she’s ever known, her memories shredded, the whispers of the past in shambles on the ground.

Can she find the strength to move forward, or will the truth destroy her?

Such an amazing bird. He possessed more skills than any other member of his murder, though he would never insult the others by telling them so.

Mayhem climbed down the rungs, and Poe resettled on his perch – aka Mayhem’s shoulder. In the distance, a woman begged for her life. Shame she must die, but the world needed to feel every tear, every atrocity, every obliterated dream.

Blessed Mayhem (The Mayhem Series, #2) by Sue Coletta #RBRT #BookReview @SueColetta1

Plot
(by Goodreads)

A chance encounter …a deadly predicament …a lethal decision.

The infamous Mr. Mayhem is not your average serial killer. Reminiscent of the beloved Hannibal Lecter, minus his thirst for flesh—because eating humans is just plain rude—Mr. Mayhem storms on the scene with style, grace, elegance, and a zest for life unlike any other. Impeccable manners also help. He may commit murder, but there’s no reason to be impolite about it.

Accompanied by his loyal crow companions, Poe, Allan, and Edgar, his crimes strike fear in the hearts and minds of folks across Massachusetts’ North Shore. When Shawnee Daniels—cat burglar extraordinaire and forensic hacker for the police—meets Mayhem in the dark, she piques his curiosity. Sadly for her, she leaves behind an item best left undiscovered. Or is it serendipity by design?

Color him curious, but he yearns to examine the psychology behind her life choices, tough girl routine, witty banter, and unique double-life. In a different time and place they may even become friends. But unfortunately, their predicament defines the risk.

The stakes are too high to stop now.

For reasons authorities cannot fathom, these seemingly unrelated murders will go down in history as the most impressive killing regime of all time. His coup de grâce, if you will. Even if it means permanently erasing Ms. Daniels from the equation. All the pieces are there if the authorities look hard enough. The question is, will they? The only new wrinkle is Shawnee Daniels, and she may be his toughest opponent yet …if she’s clever enough to play the game.

“That’s my good boy.”

As he admired his handiwork, he enjoyed his celebratory cigarette. Drag after drag he leaned against a tree, staring at the glorious sight while Poe gorged on honeydew melon, cherries, cantaloupe, and tangerine.

With this murder scene, he really outdid himself.

My Opinion

This book introduces you to Shawnee Daniels, still leading a double life and – being immune to feedback is suboptimal when a serial killer is near.

Hacked (The Mayhem Series, #1.5) by Sue Coletta #RBRT #BookReview @SueColetta1

Plot
(by Goodreads)

Shawnee Daniels wrongly assumes she’s being punished for innocently hacking the Police Chief’s photos. Okay, maybe not-so-innocently, but someone had to expose him for the dog that he is. When she arrives at the mandatory computer seminar, the FBI enlists her help in stopping a serial killer who’s remotely hacking vehicles while the owners are behind the wheel.

Why he’s targeted these people remains a mystery. None of the victims frequent the same places, some don’t even live in the same state. The only commonality is they all drive Fords.

When Detective Levaughn Samuels is taken hostage—his life teetering on the edge of a high-speed chase—there’s nothing Shawnee won’t do to save him, no line she won’t cross. And when her BFF shows up unannounced with problems of her own, she only complicates matters.

Can Shawnee stop the killer before she loses the only man she’s ever loved? Or will the ride of his life end in death?

HACKED is a Mayhem Series crossover novella.

His tone softened. “You sure you’re okay?”

“Positive,” I lied. “Will you do it?”

“Shawnee we’re cops. All we drive are Fords.”

My Opinion

This book re-introduces you to Shawnee Daniels. Shawnee has to stop a serial killer hacking into his victims’ cars.

With Hacked, Sue Coletta has once again created an incredibly chilling thriller with a stubborn young woman hacking her way to identifying a serial killer. It is a very compelling read, inevitably drawing you in as the story proceeds. Sue Coletta paints a clear picture of the main characters’ mindsets – making the readers acquainted with them – while the story evolves. I was drawn rather close to Shawnee and Levaughn. The characters are very complex, believable with their flaws and virtues; sometimes too believable for comfort. Some characters (human and feline) are the source for some fun moments for the readers, not so much for Shawnee, though. The story is cleverly elaborated and has a great flow. Sue Coletta’s thorough research shows; you find proof throughout the story.

This is a book for you if you like psychological suspense, novellas, thrillers with serial killers and hackers, stubborn characters, and if you are a fan of excellently researched topics.
